bookmarkTrees and Droughts March 5th

A tree typically has many secondary branches supported clear of the ground by the trunk. This trunk typically contains woody tissue for strength, and vascular tissue to carry materials from one part of the tree to another. For most trees it is surrounded by a layer of bark which serves as a protective barrier. Below the ground, the roots branch and spread out widely.

bookmarkEmpty Bowls Project May 20th

Flowers and fruit may be present, but some trees, such as conifers, instead have pollen cones and seed cones. Palms, bananas, and bamboos also produce seeds, but tree ferns produce spores instead.

bookmarkCeramic Bowl Painting June 15th

The crystallinity of ceramic materials ranges from highly oriented to semi-crystalline, vitrified, and often completely amorphous (e.g., glasses). Most often, fired ceramics are either vitrified or semi-vitrified as is the case with earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Varying crystallinity and electron consumption in the ionic and covalent bonds cause most ceramic materials to be good thermal and electrical insulators (extensively researched in ceramic engineering). With such a large range of possible options for the composition/structure of a ceramic (e.g. nearly all of the elements, nearly all types of bonding, and all levels of crystallinity), the breadth of the subject is vast, and identifiable attributes (e.g. hardness, toughness, electrical conductivity, etc.) are hard to specify for the group as a whole. General properties such as high melting temperature, high hardness, poor conductivity, high moduli of elasticity, chemical resistance and low ductility

bookmarkMom’s for Trees July 2nd

Trees play a significant role in reducing erosion and moderating the climate. They remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store large quantities of carbon in their tissues. Trees and forests provide a habitat for many species of animals and plants. Tropical rainforests are among the most biodiverse habitats in the world. Trees provide shade and shelter, timber for construction, fuel for cooking and heating, and fruit for food as well as having many other uses.

bookmarkBack To School Plants August 5th

The Back to School plants is a fair-like event where kids can come have fun and leave with everything they need to start school. The Back to School Bash has several things to offer the children and parents to help ease the stress of the new school year.

bookmarkPlants to Plants September 7th

Plants are mainly multicellular, predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plants. They form the clade Viridiplantae (Latin for “green plants”) that includes the flowering plants, conifers and other gymnosperms, ferns, club mosses, hornworts, liverworts, mosses and the green algae, and excludes the red and brown algae. Historically, plants were treated as one of two kingdoms including all living things that were not animals, and all algae and fungi were treated as plants.

bookmarkOutdoor Plant Fun October 18th

There are about 300–315 thousand species of plants, of which the great majority, some 260–290 thousand, are seed plants (see the table below). Green plants provide a substantial proportion of the world’s molecular oxygen and are the basis of most of Earth’s ecosystems, especially on land. Plants that produce grain, fruit and  vegetables  form humankind’s basic foodstuffs, and have been domesticated for millennia. Plants have many cultural and other uses as ornaments.

bookmarkThankspotting November 10th

All living things were traditionally placed into one of two groups, plants and animals. This classification may date from Aristotle who made the distinction between plants, which generally do not move, and animals, which often are mobile to catch their food.

bookmarkMerry Plantsmas December 20th

Their chloroplasts contain chlorophylls a and b, which gives them their green color. Some plants are secondarily parasitic or mycotrophic and may lose the ability to produce normal amounts of chlorophyll or to photosynthesize.

bookmarkPlants in the Snow Speech January 1st

Snow refers to forms of ice crystals that precipitate from the atmosphere and undergo changes on the Earth’s surface. It pertains to frozen crystalline water throughout its life cycle, starting when, under suitable conditions, the ice crystals form in the atmosphere, increase to millimeter size, precipitate and accumulate on surfaces

bookmarkPlants of Love February 14th

Love encompasses a variety of different emotional and mental states, typically strongly and positively experienced, ranging from the deepest interpersonal affection. An example of this range of meanings is that the love of a mother differs from the love of a spouse differs from the love of food. Most commonly, love refers to a feeling of strong attraction and emotional attachment.
